Grant Funding

Eco-Exmoor and Grant Funding
Eco Exmoor are accredited installers under the various grant schemes for the technologies - Solar Thermal and Biomass - that we supply and install. We were the very first company in the whole of the UK to install a solar system under the Clear Skies grant scheme. We are recognised by Local Authorities and install systems under the Heat Devon Scheme.

Reasons for installation of a renewable energy system
We suggest that if your primary reason for installing is to 'grab a grant' you may be disappointed! You usually have to pay for the installation BEFORE you can access the grant, so be prepared for that. Grants are being offered to 'kick-start' the industry and raise awareness of the technologies. They will not be on offer for very long. As fuel prices continue to rise and with a carbon tax looming, the viability of Renewable Heat is becoming more cost effective. As this happens, the grants will reduce and then stop.

If you are lucky enough to obtain a grant we suggest that it is a bonus!

Applying for Grants

Local Grants:

These may be available in certain Local Authority areas for insulation and solar, under The Heat Project or phone 0800 093 4050.

Renewable Energy For Devon . This is primarily for businesses but can offer advice for householders. Phone 0800 512 012

For Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) funding may be available for biomass boilers.

National Grants:

Low Carbon Buildings Programme

The DTI's Low carbon buildings programme will provide grants for micro generation technologies for householders, community organisations, schools, the public sector and businesses. Micro generation is the stand-alone generation of low carbon heat and/or electricity.

LCBP funding is allocated monthly and although there have been problems in the past, the system is now working quite well although it is a good idea to apply early in the month. You can apply for grants yourself from the Low Carbon Buildings Program at the Energy Saving Trust - on line is fastest : Energy Saving Trust
Phone: 0800 915 7722.

We are informed that the pre-requisites for the grant are as follows:
Minimum requirements for applying will be:

  1. You have a minimum of 270mm of loft insulation (or u value equivalent providing this can be installed).
  2. You have installed cavity wall insulation (if you have cavity walls).
  3. You are using low energy light bulbs in all main light fittings.
  4. You have installed basic controls for your heating system to include thermostats (TRV's) in all the main rooms.
There is a tick box on the application form. We know there will be random checks post installation.

Technologies that we cover:

Solar thermal hot water:
Maximum £400 regardless of size subject to an overall 30% limit (exclusive of VAT)

Bio-energy : (This means wood fuel heating)
Wood fuelled boiler systems Maximum £1,500 grant regardless of size subject to an overall 30% limit (exclusive of VAT)

Pellet Stoves:
Wood pellet space heating Maximum £600 grant available regardless of size subject to an overall 30% limit (exclusive of VAT)

To help you to assess all of the energy efficiency measures that you should consider EST have developed a Home Energy Check which can be accessed at the EST website .
You can now complete the application on line AND RECEIVE AN INSTANT ANSWER!! This means there need no longer be any delay in installation; apart from the schedule to be mutually agreed.

There is also a downloadable information sheet on the EST website. Please do not hesitate to contact us or the EST for further details.

Carbon Trust

A 0% interest Energy-Efficiency Loan must be a 5 year 'payback'
Energy-Efficiency Loans from the Carbon Trust are a cost effective way to replace, upgrade or add new equipment with a more energy efficient version. Being more energy efficient makes sound economic sense because using less energy lowers operating costs. From an environmental perspective, it's an effective way for business to cut carbon emissions and, in turn, combat climate change.

If you are a small or medium-sized enterprise (SME) in England or Wales, and have been trading for at least 12 months, you could borrow from £5,000 to £100,000. It is unsecured, interest free and repayable over a period of up to 4 years. There are no arrangement fees and applying is straightforward.
